  Neville,

 Greetings, I was looking at your request and think I'd like
 to take a look at what you have in mind.  My software engineer
 partner and I design a lot of instrumentation for specialized
 research here, and already have some hardware and software
 that will do what you are asking without modification.
 Mail me back with some more specifics as exactly what you want
 to measure, how you want to store and process, and so on.
 I personally am leaning towards a lap top for my own data
 gathering and manipulating, on my experimental efi project.
 Talk to me and let's see if we can make something work.
