Sensor Wiring

I want to use an LM34 three-terminal temperature sensor to measure engine
coolant temperature. The sensor can drive about 50pF. Let's assume 3 to 6
feet of wire between the sensor and the A/D input on the CPU board. That makes
a nice antenna to pick up ignition and other noise and trash my sensor reading
and maybe damage the processor. What's the drill for wiring/conditioning such
a (slow-moving) input? Use resistance in series and capacitance across the
sensor and the A/D input? Should I use shielded cable? If so, how/where do I
ground it? Need a practical solution to a practical problem. Thanks for your
input.
