I have just completed the PCB manufacture of a peak and hold type of driver
that will also work to drive an ignition coil. It is for the people on the
EFI332 list. Some of the drivers that Mazda mentioned will only drive the
saturated High Impedance, 1Amp, type of injectors. The only one that will
drive the 4amp peak, 1amp hold is the, Cherry part. The Motorola parts that
used to are discontinued, and they only have satruated drivers. I'm not sure
about SGS.

The circuit that I used has the National LM1949 as the driver for a
darlington or an IGBT. The circuit board is approx 2x5 and 4 driver circuits
and a voltage regulator. For more info on it, jump on the EFI332 list. The
short story is that the boards are $4.35 each plus shipping. A postscript
schematic is on the EFI332 ftp site, it is not the most current, but it has
the general idea. Also check out the National Semiconductor Web page, they
have online data sheets, and I think you still can order some samples right
off the web.
