Yes, it would work.  Take a good look at any of the small, radial flow, jet 
engines.  They work exactly like a turbocharger with a combustor would.  If
you can find a magazine called "Kit Planes", there is almost always a small
ad in the back advertising plans to do what you proposed.  The thing is 
"suppossed" to put out 300 lb-th.  FWIW.  Now, how would you go about building
an efi for one of those?......

PS: Yes, I know that the efficency of this thing will suck rocks, but it sure
