This comment has nothing to do with what you propose doing though I would
refer you to other threads regarding adapting other oem systems to your purpose.
My Problem is with your basic premise or "reason" in which you blithely
claim that there is "no fault". There is a "fault" and it's name is Lucas.
To ascribe such failures to Triumph is silly, the only way the mfr is at
fault is for installing anything from that supplier and, at that time in
Britain, there may have been little choice.
There's no magic in original equipment design for conventional ignition.
There's only shoddy manufacturing and Lucas in mid-century is synonymous
with "socialist government mandate", failure, and "shoddy".
And it's amazing how much more reliable those cute little cars become when
you remove any part, with possible exception of lamps, having to do with
Lucas and replace it with OEM Bosch or Delco. This includes all ignition
including the ballast resistor which should be replaced with part & value
designed for the Coil.
