national semiconductor, makes it LM3914 (15, and 16)  the x15 and x16
version have a different scale, x14 is linear, x15 is audio x16 is log.

the basic linear circuit is sensitive from 0 to 1.2 volts. and they are
easily stackable.   Look on their website www.natsemi.com, and they may
even send yo free samples. ( I even got free databooks from them..)
