Engine Software (was Re: Mike Sargent, where are you?)

I have not played with any version of Desktop Dyno except for the original 
release. It was so lame that I wasn't interested in spending even more money 
on a product with little or no real worth. Engine Analyzer is sufficient to 
"build" an engine within 15% of real dyno results. I doubt DD could get within 
50%, and then only for SBC and perhaps SBF.

In summary: DD was crap. EA was very nice. You're trying to decide whether to 
save $50 and buy an inferior product when you are spending how many thousands 
to build an engine and EFI system? That doesn't make sense.

Here's the reason I'm looking for Mike .... he wrote
the following note knocking "Desktop Dyno" software,
and recommending "Engine Analyzer".  But another person
tells me this is not his experience with the current
version of DD.  Since DD costs ~ $37 and EA costs ~ $99,
it would be good to hear from someone who has used them.

I'd really like to hear about any other engine analysis
software as well.

Engine Analyzer is a "software dyno" and is available from Summit Racing.
You enter all the parameters for your engine (bore, stroke, intake valve
size, cam advance, etc.) and it calculates the performance of the engine.
By changing some parameters you can see what would have if you made a
change to the engine. I am fairly impressed with Engine Analyzer (about $90),
but if you want to go whole hog there is a Pro version for about $450.

BTW: Stay away from "Desktop Dyno". I have both and DD is garbage. It is
very simplistic, allows only a few parameters, and generally produces very
suspisious results.
