Thanks for the comment.  You made me go look-up some numbers.
The BTU/lb numbers are 21665 for LP and 20762 for gasoline, however, 
accounting for density (4.2lb/gal for LP and 5.9 lb/gal for gasoline), 
you get: 90993 BTU/gal for LP and 122495 BTU/gal for gasoline.  So, you 
are right about what you said, but the energy stored per gallon is lower, 
which is the number you really want to look at when looking at fuel 
storage.  I guess I always knew propane capacity per gallon was lower 
than gasoline, but I hadn't looked-up why.
