Chris,
	I've tried it the software only method, and it takes forever.  I've
found it much easier to go round the pins of an MCU and find out
everything you can about those pins, attach that info to the technical
diagrams of it, then reverse engineer the code based on the given
information you've just produced.
	Otherwise, your always scratching your head, just trying to make sense
of what the codes doing to figure out what that particular port might
be.
	I have had to do it the software only way though, and there's just some
things you'll never get without the other end.
