A dog clutch is two metal plates that have mating "teeth", and when pushed 
together, they "mate" better than two flat surfaces.  Detriot Lockers (I 
think) have them, not automatic transmissions.  I was responding to your 
message while chugging coffee getting ready for the train.  :)
