I think the motor you want is called B16A.  This motor first appeared
around 1988.  It's a 1.6 liter DOHC VTEC engine.  The original version
had 150 HP, then 160, and now it's 170 HP.  Any version is fine really,
because if you plan to refresh the engine, then they can be updated...
you can stroke it to a 1.8 liter if you wanted (though not too cost
effective).

If the engine you buy comes attached to a tranny, then the cable clutch
guys are the 150 HP...  hydralic = 160 HP or later (umm, 92 or later?)
There ought to be a way to tell from the serial # but I don't have that
info.

There are a dozen variations of other Honda 1.6 liter engines...
the D16x family.  And the ZC's.  Anyway, B16A is what you want for
performance.
