Bonehead Basic question, my $.02 worth

I have obtained some basic source code from the list and would like to work
on modifying it for my square-one ALDL project.

What basic compiler does most of the list use? Quick basic 4.0 or so?
Where is the best place to obtain the software? Off of old DOS versions?
I'm familiar with basic, but I'm just getting my feet wet with IBM basic.

Also, I can't resist. I must cough in my $.02 worth on this carb vs. fi
thread. FI is more tunable, no doubt. However, I can rebuild and tune the
hell out of a carb w/ a rebuild kit and screwdriver set for the grand total
($30 or so). If I have access to a drill, I can really go to work!

To tune FI, I need computer, software, prom burner, etc, grand total (a LOT
more than $30). None of those things will fit in my toolbox. However,
that's the price we pay for high tech. All the cars now are fuel injected,
so everybody in time will have to get used to it anyway!

However, sometimes, I would love to open the hood of my Monte and stare at a
hot TPI setup rather than that old, dirty OEM Q-jet. And I'd love to sit
down and be able to totally remap the computer data to my liking, burn a
prom, plug it in, and lay rubber down the street. With the help of this
list, maybe someday...

Thanks for indulging in my ramblings.
