The old tincan-as-a-vacuum-tank thing has been around since at least the 
1950's on most if not all domestic stuff. Kinda like the finish nails GM 
uses to hold their governors together. A good thing to remember for that 
wood project if the hardware store is out of nails. Last time I checked, 
GM wanted about 75 cents (wholesale) per nail...
