I also have the same setup, and have also had the same results. I 
ended up moving the point on the carb where the TV cable attached
(closer to the pivot) and everything is fine 70K miles later.

I love the 700-R4! I am putting one in my 54 Ford SBChevy-powered
truck (Along with the EFI332).
