Two methods for anti lag systems (assuming a programmable management system
of some sort):
1. At closed throttle, richen the mixture and retard the timing so that the
cylinder does not fire. Use a smog pump/ EGR valve to allow air into the
exhaust manifold, which will allow the unburnt mixture to fire and keep up
the turbine speeds. A number of rally cars employ this approach.
2. Use nitrous injection as a 'super accelerator pump'. When full throttle
is appplied, squirt a tiny bit of nitrous in (and richen the mixture as
appropriate) to give the engine a power boost, and the turbine some exhaust
volume to work with. This approach does not require a very large nitrous
tank as the applications are only required for a very short period.
Or use twin, staged sequential turbos, one small one to spin up quickly,
and another to supply bulk flow at high revs a la Mazda RX7.
