2 cycle aircraft (ultralight) engines use this trick to get a mixture
window between too hot (sieze up + you die) and too rich (plugs foul and
you die)

The trick seems to work well enough. The jets are usually changed on the
ground, but adjustable mixture mods are available for the carbs. Check
out "Leading Edge Airfoils" or "Aircraft Spruce and Specialty" catalogs
for parts...
