Structured Parity?

Howdy y'all,

About 2 years back, I attended a presentation by a GM EEC guru. He discussed
the onset of OBD-II and the need to pinpoint failed sensors. The method
that GM uses is called structured parity. I seem to recall the general
method, but has anyone else heard of this? I'm looking for a fairly
technical reference, but several trips to the library and a bookstore have
turned up nothing of merit (well, almost nothing. David Vizard has a new
book concerning modifying carbureted intake manifolds for more power :)

Anyways, if anyone can point me to a good reference on this subject, I'd be
eternally grateful (well, you'd probably just get a thank you note)

Thanks,
