I have a 1955 Combustion Engineering Inc reference book in my desk.  It
states the following for heating values:

Gasoline - Low, 18,700; High, 20,200
Kerosene - Low, 18,500; High, 19,900
Fuel Oil - Low, 17,400; High, 18,500
