boost control

I also know a few people at Garrett. They all tend to be a little
conservative on the compressor side though. I would run at least a super 60
wheel inside a T04E compressor housing. My 3.0 V6 Nissan runs a T51
compressor wheel in a TS04 compressor housing with a Q trim .70 turbine. It
spools only slightly slower than the stock T-3, but makes 475 hp though. My
friend at Garrett had previously changed my compressor to an H and put a T31
turbine on, and it was laggier than the huge unit on my car now, with a
significant drop in backpressure. In fact during testing, I ran 28 psi on 87
octane pump gas with no detonation and an open down pipe.

I would suggest that you get a few more opinions on what to put on your
project before commiting to the unit from your friend, unless of course it's
free! It's cool that he is going to kick down a ball-bearing unit for you.
I have inquired with my friend and he said that all that is available is the
T-25 small shaft and the $5000.00 motorsport unit with a T-3 shaft.

Another thing to put on your wish list is an electronic boost control. It
will decrease the spool up time of any wastegated turbo. They are expensive,
but if you can find a used one cheap, I would get it.

PS, if you can get more ball-bearing units, I want one :)
