mapping

I recently saw a picture of an EFI controller in an English magazine. The
caption said it was a
"real time" controller, did all the calculations real time instead of
mapping. It also metioned how expensive it was. I don't have any experience
with EFI control but generally memory is much cheaper
that CPU and look up tables are a lot faster then numerical processing. My
question is about how the smoothing is done. Are there any controllers that
use fuzzy logic? Is it done with traditional interpolation
algrthms?
