Even though vacuum is proportional to fuel flow in a given gear, it =
cannot be used to optimize driving style to maximize fuel economy or =
answer questions such as which gear is most economical to climb a hill =
or is it better to accelerate quickly and get in to high gear sooner or =
accelerate slowly and stay in the low gears longer.

Yes, it can be done. The pulse width (duty cycle) needs to be changed to =
a
voltage, which can read out on a meter, bar-graph, or digital readout. =

will not be MPG, but instantaneous fuel flow. By keeping it as low as
possible, you get your best mileage. A vacuum guage does the same thing =

less cost and with less complexity.
