Like I said.. If I have to change axles and have to spend the money, then
I'd rather go with a Ford 9" based unit, even if it weighs more than the
Dana or other stock GM axles.

For the moment, the 10-bolt is working fine, and I have multiple spare ring
& pinion sets for it (3.42, 3.73, & 4.10).. now if I manage to demolish all
of those and the spare axle shafts too.. then I install the Borg Warner
9-bolt (2.77)... and if that fails then on to something new and send all
the busted parts to the scrap bin.  (don't ask how I accumulated all these
axle bits.. because I don't rightly know myself.. I didn't realize how much
of this stuff I had till I cleaned out the garage the other day :)

So it looks like this particular issue isn't as pressing as getting the
manifolds and ECU gear together.
