The listed items are so tightly wound together that Ireally
don't know how to seperate them for this document. And
any one that has more to say on the subject I would invite
to comment further. Again this is from my experiences on
the subject matter, and my interuption of what others have
told me, to correct difficuties that I've experienced.
The ecm is a marvelous thing, but it has no self generating
logic, it just follows instructions. So it can be lied to and will
never know the difference, and generates stuff that us
humans use as a language to understand what it's doing.
By this I mean if we tell it to generate a WOT AFR of 13.5:1
thats what it will do using the information that we feed it.
So this 13.5 is a calculation, and may or may not be an
actual real world reading.
On a multi port the injectors are calibrated at 3 bar.
Atm is 14.7, absol vac is 30" merc. So a engine that
developes 15" of vac at idle will when referenced to the
fuel pressure reg will change the FP 7ish PSI. So the
FP changes about 16% do to this vac ref.. So depending
on it's initial flow characteristics can change some when
it is vac referenced when installed in the car. Hence for
calibration purposes you/they/me might use a injector
size of 39 for a injector that is rated at 42. The less
linear an injector is the greater this "error" will be.
I might mention rising rate fuel pressure regulators,
they will change the FP by a rate greater than the
referenced change. IE on a turbo motor that
generates 14 psi boost may generate a 28 psi
change in PSI..
This will help explain, why when you increase the inj
size by say 10% you may/may not wind up changing the
base injector width 10%, or 10% across the VE tables,
Personally I would, and then again tune as nessecary
You can take your pick if ya wanna start your WOT
ranges at 13.5, or 14.7.. I have had good luck with
the 13.5, but after talking with another tuner (Carl
S) can appreciate his use of the 14.7..
There is no change that you can make to the
settings, than changing the injector constant that
will have a very profound effect.
  Now juggling all this:
I have told my ecm a huge non lie, that is I
don't know where the injector constant is so I
had to use huge injectors also since I didn't know
where the TPS Enrichment was (EFI talk for carb
acclerator pump). So I am running a 90#/hr, with
a constant/inj size of 65. Which is not the best
way to do this. But, by creative use of Fuel Pressure
Regulators, and time consuming recalibrating the
VE tables, I gotten it to work, but some of the
stuff looks really strange, ie WOT AFR of 13.5s.
Trust me that a number that only exists in the
ecms "mind" it's actually closer to 12.5..
To be continued:: (it will get more confusing
before it starts to make more sense).....
HTH Bruce Still reading the DOJ, FBI reports
and have learned that never has
there been a reported get away
                     driver wearing a cone shaped
                     hat.
