Doesn't keep the mud off the outside of the sensor, where it does the
damage. If you understand how an O2 sensor works, it makes sense. It is
basically an air battery - air inside, air outside, element between. The
difference in O2 concentration inside to outside causes a voltage
difference. Now, what happens when air can't get to the "outside" of the
element? Elementary, my dear Watson. The "battery" goes "dead".
