GM-HEI Modules

I'm using a ~~'86 computer controlled coil in cap HEI in an 89 tbi
truck  which would normally use the separate coil type distributor.
(A matter of $$ and availability)
  I've adapted the wiring OK, & it "SEEMS" to work OK, but I still have
that nagging question in my mind as to whether the 2 types of
distributor modules handle the ECM signal identically. Do they both
provide the same timing curve, dwell, etc.?

These modules have a total of 8 pins. 2 for the pickup, 2 for the coil,
& a 4 pin harness, ecm, etc.
