A Turbo charger is more efficient that a supercharger because it is able
to extract thermal energy from the exhaust. While there is a parasitic
loss from the back pressure, that loss is somewhat offset by the
decreased temperature of the gasses exiting the turbo. If a
turbo/engine combination were sized such that they were under full load
at cruise, it would have higher efficiency than a naturally aspirated
engine sized to be at full load under similar conditions.
