Well, some MAF sensors don't actually measure all of the airflow into the
engine. I think Delcos are designed this way. They measure a small portion of
the total air flowing through a given sized orifice, and then use that
measurement to represent the total airflow. Why couldn't you do this. Place
the MAF inside a tube of say 5" diameter, and use the MAF readings to represent
total airflow. This is basically the same as using two MAF sensors in
parallel, and taking the readings from only one, at least in theory. The
difference is that there's less chance that something could block the "dead"
sensor and leave you running lean.
