SDS EM-2

I just recieved my EM-2D (fuel only) in the mail and after spending about
2-3 hours running the wires through the firewall, it took less than 2
minutes to get the car started and idling properly this morning. I've got
a ex-carburated 2.5L 4cyl Jeep cherokee and was doing the from-scratch
DIY-EFI thing but got tired of not having it run reliably;) I met a fellow
I autocross with that uses the SDS in his restored 70s? Datsun 2000 and it
ran very well so I ordered mine last week. I accidentily ordered the
3/8"NPT water and air sensors when I really need the 1/8"NPT, but that is
the only hangup so far (I just plugged the sensors in and hung them over
the intake manifold to get it started;)
I agree that I probably could have gotten a wiring harness and ECU from a
similar later model chrysler vehicle (which is where my intake
manifold/fuel rail/regulator came from) for less and it would have worked a
little better. I don't mind programming proms as I write motor contorl
code for a living, but that little SDS programming box REALLY makes things
easy and the +-50% trim knob is a wonderfull idea. When I get it running
well I might go back and complete my from-scratch EFI box so I can gain
more knowledge (will also need to replace the mech. inj. on my 911 one of
these days when I upgrade the motor). And heck, If I wanted something
super-super reliable that I didn't have to tinker w/ I would have either
stayed w/ carbs or sold it and bought a factory EFI jeep, but where is the
fun in that??? Im in this to learn and have a good time!
Right now I'm using a MSD-6 for the ignition, triggered off the inductive
pickup in the distributer and triggering the SDS from the tach output from
the MSD. One I get the SDS tuned and get some fun 4-wheeling in this year,
I will first go back and use my own ECU to do ignition timing (that part
worked well, I didn't have enough ADC inputs for the TPS,O2,MAP,air&water
temp sensors to get the EFI working well). This is why I didn't buy the 2E
or 2F since I already have a working ignition.
The SDS manual isn't fantastic, but if you already understand the basic
concepts of EFI then its pretty easy to figure out how it works and what
you need to do. If you want more info, you can email me directly or put it
on the list...

informative. Any suggestions for options, experiences, etc... on the EM-2
would be greatly appreciated.
