Contactless Torque measurement (Was: loadmeasurement)

On this torque measurement thing,  what is it that I'm missing here?

given that the displacement doesn't change, and the intake/exhaust systems don't
change....

 Wouldn't torque be a simple computer function of throttle position, MAP, and
RPM's?   maybe MAF....if used?   this should vary hardly at all...unless an
extreme altitude change...then a baro sensor could be used....so why all the
compexities for so little apparent gain?
