Checking out a Delco

Hi All

I'm in Australia and have this hair brained idea of fitting FI to my
VW Kombi using a Delco and bits of an old FI from a VW

I happen to have an 808 ECU from  VN Commodore that my brother used to
own

It was replaced because it was supposed to be faulty but I was
wondering how I could check if there is anything wrong with it.

What usually goes wrong with these things?? and are they repairable?

My girlfriend has an Astra with the 1.8 EFI engine which is supposed
to use the same 808 ECU.

Could I install the memcal form the Astra in the VN ECU and then
install this into the Astra.

I should then be able to read any fault codes from the ECU

Will this work or are there any other methods of testing one??
