The info that Ray gave you is essentially correct, however, it looks like
you missed a
point. It may help to state it another way.

Compression ratio is defined as the ratio between the Total Volume(Cylinder
Volume plus Clearance Volume) above the piston at Bottom Dead Center and the
Clearance Volume above the piston at Top Dead Center. The head gasket volume
is above the piston at all times(hopefully) and, therefore, is part of the
Clearance Volume not the stroke.
