Wouldn't it be easier to find some older heads with larger combustion
chambers to lower the CR. Early 70's 350s ran really well with 1960s 327
heads which had smaller combustion chambers than the stock heads. This is
sort of your issue in reverse.

Just a thought.

Sorry, don't know of any good books,,but be careful,,,Most 350 heads on
305 blocks cause the valves to hit the cylinder walls as bore on 305 is
3.736 instead of the 4.00" bore of the 350's...
