I have access to a CD ROM reader at work with SAE articles. One paper I
found is SAE J2201, Universal Interface for OBD II Scan. It states in
paragraph 2.2.2:

2.2.2. DLCS - (Data Link Controller Serial) refers to the intergrated
circuit family developed by General Motors that supports SAE J1850 10.4
Kbps VPW CRC communications.

VPW - Variable Pulse Width modulation CRC - Cyclid Redundancy Check

Please don't ask me to email a copy of this as the CD's are similar to
microfiche. The documents are scanned in as pictures and are only
outputted to the screen or printer. I would have to scan the 45 pages and
that would be a huge file. Sorry.
