Bruce,

DIS is used on tons of hot rod cars and works very well.
The cylinder on waste sparks like the other one, the missing ingredient is  a/f
and compression.
A plug does and will spark with inert gas, the only difference is the lack of a
hydracarbon unit to ignite.
