Well, Methanol has an octane rating equivalent that is similar to 
that of toluene, but has a heat of evaporation that is nearly 4x 
higher, and it's also miscible with water, so that might be better 
yet.  I think Methanol-Water mixtures have been used in aviation for 
a pretty long time.
