Well, there are Pontiac 350, 400, and 455 engines.  Most likely in your '76
Firebird there is a Chevy.  How can you tell?  This is a quick check.  The
oil fill hole in the rocker cover on a Chevy is almost always offset to the
front or rear, while the Poncho filler hole is in the center of the cover.

Also, on the Pontiac motor, the timing chain cover also acts as the rear of
the water pump.  The Chevy has a stamped steel timing cover, and the water
pump bolts directly to the block in 2 places, sort of straddling the upper
portion of the cover.
