Well, first I'd like to thank Ludis for helping me think through the
backfire problem I was having on the '97 Chevy LT1 in my '67 Camaro.
I hooked up the outboard VSS this weekend...and now I don't show any
codes related to VSS operation.
First the good news. I no longer have the "snap-crackle-pop" variety
of backfire when I am decelerating through the gears.
Not so good news. I still get a good single backfire when
accelerating close to or at WOT, when I hit the clutch to upshift.
Usually happens when at 4000 rpm or higher.
SOme others have suggested..through personal experience that on this
particular setup, it's probably not ECM related. Those who have had
this problem have had either a bad coil wire, or a bad coil itself.
So, off to get the OHM meter to see if the coil is okay..and going to
change out the coil wire.
Thanks again for all the info regarding the computer end of this
stuff. So much to know, so little time <g>.
