1969-72 AMC 6 cyls with chrome rings often would not seat in - use a
quart in 500-700 miles from new. The RECOMMENDED fix at the time ( I
worked for a dealer then) was to sift a tablespoon of corn starch
through the intake at about 1200 RPM. Never did a rering for oil
consumption on a new engine after that.
