..any idea how thick

WAG = 16 GA (about .060") tank thickness. Run your fuel lines in 1/2" (AN8)
to have some reserve. Fuel suction line from main tank to the LP pump in
5/8 or 3/4" (AN 10 or 12) line. Go to a true INDUSTRIAL piping supply house
and buy a FORGED steel fitting(s) called a threadolet (with the correct
size(s) female pipe thread in one end). WELD it (or them) to wherever you
want it (them) on the tank (recommend MIG (wirefeed)). Then drill the
hole(s) into the tank through the center of the fitting(s) using a nipple
screwed into the threadolet as a drill bushing (guide). Orient tank
vertically, with original valve outlet straight down. Take suction from
this outlet to feed HP pump. If you wanna get really carried away, BG Fuel
Systems sells insanely rugged fuel accumulators (they have an O-ringed
piston inside, with an adjustable gas charge on the other side of the
piston from the fuel). If you use one of them (either on the HP or LP side
of system), orient it with the outlet UP, so you do not trap vapor in the
accumulator(s). An accumulator on the LP side is the biggest aid, but both
sides do some good.

When done, go have fun!!
