Knock Sensor display

[am018]

I suspect it is really just a VU meter with some signal conditioning   ?
anybody know ?
I have had a look at the National Semi LM3916 and LM3915 data sheets and they
have most of the circuit schematics required -- I am going to have a go at
building a prototype.
