In answer to the request for a source and something to read for yourself, concerning the meaning of the US Constitution.  Find yourself a copy of the Citizens' Handbook.

It's a small (3.5" X 7") 45 page booklet that has the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, the Constitution and a couple of other important documents.

My copy was printed by Freedom Partner's in Washington DC, 202 833-2234.  Also, most conservative book & tape stores will carry these booklets, and many organization give them away for the asking.  Even if you have to pay a  couple of bucks, it's worth it.
