Good for him. But it doesn't mean that Gar has any right to
"aggressively beat off any challengers to the throne".

A more positive response from Gar would have been welcome, without
the need to judge Paul's contribution as lies, etc.. Paul is
obviously new to the technology and may well have been sucked into
believing that he had all the necessary details.

I do understand that it can take hundreds, if not thousands of hours
of development on a product with a superficial value of a few dollars.
[I work mainly in the software industry where your product of years
of development can reside on a floppy disk.]

Therefore I appreciate and respect Gar's R&D efforts, but feel a
little sad that he feels unable to contribute more of the details to
the list -- at this time at least.

By doing so, Gar is perhaps unwittingly promoting independent
development of different solutions, especially in parts of the world
where access to the technology is traditionally limited. So we're
used to creating our own solutions which if not better than what
Gar's announced, will most likely be different.

Don't judge people by their email presence. Well, at least don't let
it taint what you write.

I have never encountered a perfect communicator in email or Usenet.
Interpretation of what you write is always in the background of the
reader - and with such a wide variety of people reading, the written
word is bound to be misinterpreted by somebody.

Simple Netiquette suggests that one should not respond immediately
when one is upset, intoxicated, etc. Unfortunately, the immediacy of
the net "demands" that we respond immediately to maintain the
conversation, which unlike the spoken word, can be recorded for
posterity and held against you, even out of context at some future
point in time.

I doubt if anybody's judgement about what or when to post is ideal;
but at least try to refrain from immediately sending your responses
to messages which have upset you. If need be; draft the response and
leave it for a day, then read it again from a different perspective
before responding. If in doubt; don't respond.

If Paul (and Gar) can limit their disagreements to off-list, then I
would enjoy whatever they have to offer through their continued
contributions.
