A/F ratio - mass or volume?

I'd like to turn a HP number into LB/MIN of air (for turbo sizing)... So i'm
taking HP, BSFC, AFR like this:

350hp * 0.55bsfc * 12:1afr / 60 (min per hour) = 38.5 lb/min of air...

this is only true if the air:fuel is in terms of mass... is that how it is
commonly defined?
