"Porsches" had oil coolers since the mid-1930's. :-)
However, the primary method of disposing of excess heat from the
engine, the heads in particular, change from air-cooled to
oil-cooled around the time of the 911. It eliminated the cooling
fins on the heads but required much larger oil flow rates and
volumes than before.
Did the Corvair have cooling fins and ducted air to the heads?
i.e. was it oil-cooled or did it just have its oil cooled?
