Changing the air gap does two things.
1) reduce the min firing voltage, at the plug and on a real cold start up
could make the plug easier to foul.
2) increases the reserve voltage available for firing the plug when the
firing voltage is greatest.
Like everything with ignition with every good thing there is a bad
