RTD or thermocouple?

Thanks for all the responses. It looks like Thermometrics does have a RTD
for up to 1000C. I don't know what the reponse time is. Basically, I want
sometihng that will warn me before damage is done, and a sensor which will
not melt under extreme heat condiftions. I have heard of an "enchanced" RTD
datalogger for exhaust, but I don't know all the details yet. A person who
has it discovered quickly that the thermocouple he had (installed in addition
to the RTD) reported temps poorly compared to the RTD. The temps reported by
the thermocouple were off (too cold) and lagged behind a few seconds. I'll
try to find out more info about it.
