Soldering tips?

I'd recommend a good hot temperature controlled iron
with several different tip sizes to fit the job.  A solder
sucker (manual reset the plunger) is invaluable for 
cleaning up your mistakes.  I use .040" solder, but it
might be easier for a beginner with .030".  60/40 is
about the best, but I find 50/50 is not that different.  If
your eyesight is a little weak, keep a good light and a
magnifying glass around to inspect the work.

You don't need/want silver solder.
