Yep, and things aren't getting any better as SUVs get larger and drivers get
dumber.  One has to take a very "active" approach to safety, and even with
error-free riding it's still possible to get into a lot of trouble.

Agreed, but one can get into (onto?) a pretty fast 5-year-old bike for under
$4k and still have a lot of fun.  Besides, there's something about a vehicle
that does sub-11s 1/4-miles and still gets over 40 MPG:)

Cycles certainly don't replace cars for me - they just give me the chance to
play cowboy once in a while.
