Doing it with out a clutch pedal

As far as understand a F1 clutch is really only designed to be used 
for 4-5 starts i.e. warmup, start and a few pitstops so even a restart
is 
pushing it. 

A friend of mine has just put a Quaife dog box in a VW golf he uses for
racing, and you don't have to use the clutch with that, AFAIK he has 
a force sensor on the shifter that cuts the engine while
shifting.
