Yes, you need to use thermocouple wire and use the proper crimp
connectors to avoid creating another cold junction.  You can also
buy "extension cords" that have the standard connectors already
attached.  Spools of wire and extensions are available from the
same places that sell thermocouples (Digikey has this stuff iirc).
